day 74 Sep 6 Tue Eumundi -Maleny - Glass House Mountains

We say goodbye to the coast for a few days and head in land to Yandina, Eumundi and the pretty hilltops of Mapleton, Montville and Maleny.
First stop is the Buderim Ginger Factory - we take a short guided tour around the factory and then the tasting room! Ginger beer is first and then some other gingery treats - which to be honest... just tasted....erm... gingery!

Another "big" is on the list for today - however when we arrive the "Big Pineapple" is looking a bit worse for wear and has obviously seen better days! The Big Pineapple is 16 metres high and was originally opened on the 15th of August 1971 and is heritage listed - but as an attraction is currently closed so we duck under the railings for this photo!

The rest of the afternoon is spent driving through the Glasshouse Mountain Range and hearing the Aboriginal tale of their origins. They were were named by Captain Cook after the shape of and are fantastic volcanic crags, so called as the shape of the mountains reminded him of the huge glass furnaces (glasshouses) back in his native Yorkshire. The mountains are the subjects of several Aboriginal tales and Coonowrin is said to be the son of Tibrogargan and Beerwah. During a violent storm, Tibrogargan commanded his son Coonowrin to take his mother Beerwah and his siblings and help them move to safety. Being scared of the storm, Coonowrin instead ran off and when his father found him he hit him on the back of the head, resulting in Coonowrin's crooked neck. Tibrogargan was so ashamed of his son's cowardice that to this day he sits with his back to Coonowrin.

More shouts of "Dont Look DOWN!" at the top of the National Park where we visit the loo to find a different sort of compost toilet! Added bonus was they were not in the least bit pongy!

and another sort at our rest stop followed! Only this time they absolutely HONKED!!!!
