We say goodbye to Liz and John, AGAIN! and drive south to Ballina and the very shabby "big prawn" located on top of a seafood restaurant on the town boundary. Like the "big pineapple" it is now closed and has seen slightly better days. Ballina itself has nothing much going on so we continue on to Yamba in search of another good beach. This coast is rather spoilt for good beaches - Yamba is no exception and the girls play for a while in the rock pools we find in a small sheltered cove we stumble upon. Sadly the weather breaks suddenly and we take cover in the van, hoping it will blow over. Unfortunately the cloud and drizzle seems to be there to stay and so we treat ourselves with "jaws" and chips from the locally famous Gormans seafood cafe. The troops are not disappointed and it is devoured with gusto. We drive on to Half Way Creek rest area and are amazed to find kangaroos grazing on the grassy area as we make camp. Sadly the arrival of a large purple and green van heralds their departure! Subtle and understated we are not! The rest stop is located at the back of a petrol station and all night truck stop and cafe. Once bedtime is over Nicole heads inside to the warmth of the cafe area, a large pot of hot chocolate, wi fi and free electricity and is able not only to charge the laptop but also spend a few hours catching up on the blog, uploading photos from almost a month before. It is a long job, but made easier by the warmth and relative peace and comfort of the surroundings. The further south we travel, the colder the evenings have got and the more clothes have been needed. The girls have nick named me "goat feet" due to the glamorous sock and flip flop combo, improved only by the digging out of the thermal trousers worn under shorts! Stylish is not the word!
